I am hoping to travel via emirates to bangalore..I have avoided other airlines due to transit visa issues...any experince using Emirates??.
I have traveled on Emirates to Chennai a couple of times but that was via London. Emirates is definitely among the top 5 airlines in the world in terms of customer service. Nice & comfirtable seats, great food, transit at Dubai was a breeze. Would definitely recommend :)

I won't be surprised if they pull a quick July 07 or something on those lines to collect more money for filing and renewal of EAD/ AP
I hope this happens, looks like in the current atmosphere there is a high likelihood of it happening as well. It will be a great step forward for people who missed Jul 07, it will be an opportunity for us to have EAD / AP and have a peep at the next step!

How about this ? I have an approved I 140 in eb2 with my current employer, I 485 never filed, then join a new employer, start perm and then I 140.

If you read the instructions for I-485, nowhere does it require you to be on a non immigrant visa, with dual intent, to apply for I-485.
I tried to read the instructions from the standpoint of a student, and I did not find anything that says I cannot apply to adjust status. All they want is proof of your status and admission.
Also, we have someone in our company who will go for Eb1, and is on OPT (which is not a status, F1 is). He was told that he can apply for I-140!
Any F1 visa spouse can apply for I-485 the only legal cause is that at the time of filing spouse status should be legal, found from my attorney.
As per my knowledge when I was a student, the internation center updates the Sevis database and also writes on the I-20 that the student is accepting OPT and so a EAD needs to be issued. And on the EAD it will mention that the EAD is for OPT, so EAD for I485 is differect from EAD for OPT.

Though this may be off topic, it is related to travel and NIV.
I booked tickets for my inlaws travelling on a tourist visa in Jet Airways - Chennai to JFK with layover in Brussels.
Now, when I ask people everyone say they travel by Lufthansa, Air India, Emirates etc... but I have not found anyone who has travelled by Jet Airways.
Just wanted to know if anyone has travelled via Jet Airways and their experience at the Brussels Airport, if it was smooth. My Inlaws do not speak English and this is the first time they are travelling.

Once you are 183 days on H1b (significant presence test), you become resident alien for federal tax purposes and file 1040 just like any other resident. From my experience in real estate, I am yet to encounter an IRS form that says H1b's shall be taxed 10% more. Can you request the IRS publication number from the source? I am curious.

This is really stupid. Most of the people will not have valid stamping on an expiring passport.
San Francisco was fine. They gave me for 10 years in January.

Hi friends,
My brother in NJ got his new passport at NY Indian consulate (since old one was expiring soon). They gave new passport which was valid for only one year - saying that they need valid unexpired visa-stamp to give 10 year validity passport.
They said that they will NOT accept
- valid unexpired EAD
- valid unexpired AP
- valid 485 receipt
- even valid unexpired H1 approval notice (my brother still has H1 in addition to AP)

I am scheduling an Infopass appointment at my local USCIS office in the hope of getting an interim EAD. It has been more than 90 days since they received my application.

yes, employer just needs to show that new job is similar to your old job. Its just simply a letter which an employer can(may choose not to as its not mandatory by law but advised to do so) send to USCIS.
For EB2 classification you dont need to do anything, your emplyer need to show that job needs Masters or equivalent and it meets prevailing market salary requirements. So you can just ask them if this position meets EB2 requirements and if they will be wiling to do EB2 filing for you in addition to AC21 (or H1 transer)

I have an approved I-140 from my current US company but there are some discussions of "layoffs" going around and I want to be ready for any scenario.
My question is whether I can retain my PD with an approved I-140:
1.) If the employer hasn't taken any decision to cancel I-140.

If you have enough time or not depends on if your country of origin is retrogressed. In your case retrogression will help you.
You do not need to be working for the new employer for them to start the green card process. So no need to wait for H1B transfer. But most employers would not do that.
To get one year extensions, Your case has to be pending for at least a year. That clock starts when you apply for labor. With PERM there is two months of recruiting (one month recruiting and one month cool down) before you can apply for labor. So it looks like you will not meet this deadline. (You may be able to extend your current H1B for the time you were out of the country)
So your only hope is that your labor certification goes through and your I140 goes through and your country is retrogressed. Then the one year rule does not apply and you can extend H1B for three years.
So pray that congress does not fix the retrogression problem until you get your three year extension :)

Thanks guys for all your replies & suggestions. Just to let you know, that I am paying for my whole GC process and I have been with this company since last 3 years. I have already completed one 2 year contract term with them and still they are asking me to sign new contract. To me, this is total blackmailing.
Again ....the risk it totally urs to take.....!!!
I am sure they are doing that so that they can suck u more after applying 485....so at this point even if u tell them it is illegal, they will not budge...

We have taken indian jewellary with us when we travelled to India. I dont think it is a problem and you dont have to declare it in customs. I think if you are carrying cold in the form on coins or bars, you will have to pay customs. I dont remember but it says in the customs form that personal jewellary need not be mentioned. I would check the india's customs website.
