It's both sad and sickening to see how many Apple fanboys are elitists who only want Apple products to be sold at upscale stores. Such fanboys want Apple products to be regarded as high-end fashion accessories and status symbols. What a shame that Apple has such a feminized culture associated with it. I miss the days when Apple products were regarded as tools for accomplishing tasks.
I don't know that I would call it feminized, but it certainly seems bratty and petulant. Sell them everywhere! Someone mentioned Starbucks and 7-11... and while they were being douchenozzles about it, I say those sound like great ideas. I don't care if they sell them at hot dog carts in the park... the more places that sell them and the more people that see them the better. When you limit an item to boutique stores, the items get a stigma of being posh and elitist... that is NOT how you move tons of product.

I got a free copy of XP Pro from my university with MSDA-AA licence. Hopefully they'll be doing the same with Vista so I can have a macbook with tiger and vista dual booting - sounds fun.

I'm listening to my iPod Classic 160gb right now, I bought it after I got a 32gb Iphone 3GS. I just don't like touchscreen for music on the move.

Has anyone considered that apple might not be realeasing the wide screen super secret video ipod because it dosn't exist?
lets all think for a second...
1) touch screens are weak, soft, and matte, not iPod at all
2) they get printy and scratched very easily
3) they would go through oodles of batter power
4) Apple would not make the thing bigger just to hold the extra battery
5) battery life would STINK
6) touch screen starts to complicate the interface, goes against apple's easy as pie rule
7) the thing would have to cost a fortune
Logic has no place on the internet ;)
But seriously that is a good post, it's similar to points others have brought up during the last few months.

some people just want an ipod for listening to music.
not every apple user in the world needs all that iOS stuff.
i'm really hoping for an ultimate classic model, but i'm being a bit hopeless.
meantime I just bought a used 4g ipod classic 20gb for 30 (40$), it's wonderful :)
The only usable iPod is the iPod Touch. The ClickWheel "interface" of the classic is a royal pain in the back when you have to navigate through thousands of titles. And even the interface of the iPod Touch could be much better if they dropped all those useless animations and transition effects that only achieve one thing: They slow me down. And that is especially dangerous when using the bloody thing while driving a car.
Very often, I envy the people who have a USB port in their car radio; they just plug in a USB stick without all those unnecessary fancy things and they are not locked into the "iTunes experience" or any other DRM prison.
Surely there's a place for a high capacity iPod. 32GB doesn't cut it. Even 64GB doesn't cut it.
64 GB is six times the size of my current mp3 library. But I only keep the stuff that I actually like to hear. I'm no longer collecting full albums just because I can. It doesn't make sense to keep unnecessary things around just because you have the storage capacity for it. It's a waste.

Specifically addressed after the main demo.
No upgrade pricing, versions, etc.; one price, from the app store. Period.
Considering the current FCS price...
I would be shocked if there wasn't a Studio bundle though... they do it for iLife and iWorks, even making some software exclusive to the iLife Bundle (iWeb for example).
Though the App Store would probably be much better for fighting piracy.

This is just a business being a business. Get over it.
You don't think Apple gives special placement certain bands and/or labels on the iTunes music store? You think it's just as easy to find "Joe Smith's Indie Band" as it is to stumble upon U2's latest single?
Walmart is probably threatening these companies with diminished advertising and product placement. I doubt they have any intention of removing DVDs from their stores.
In fact, I doubt this story is even true, but that's another matter.
The sad fact of the matter is, the studios have no choice but to comply. Record labels and movie studios already fold and release special "Walmart" versions of certain items just to get them in the front door, because in this day and age, something as simple as the absence from Walmart's shelves is enough to make a CD or DVD's failure all but inevitable.
But again, this isn't David vs. Goliath, as someone amusingly said. This is a $200 billion company vs. a $65 billion company.
I won't be looking for the Kleenex.

Yeah, I was with him up until this line:
I think that music faded in importance for a while, and the iPod has helped to bring music back into people's lives in a really meaningful way. Music is so deep within all of us, but it's easy to go for a day or a week or a month or a year without really listening to music. And the iPod has changed that for tens of millions of people, and that makes me really happy, because I think music is good for the soul.
Umm, yeah, the iPod brought music back into the limelight. Thanks Steve Jobs, in the 90s I was worried music would go away forever, even though it's existed since the dawn of man.

Oh come on. How often do we actually have to access our optical drives? While you may do so often, many of us almost never do and would be happy to attach an external drive every now and then or even access the disc we need over the network.
The optical drive in my laptop broke a few months ago. I haven't missed it much. The one time I did need it, I hooked up my external drive, so it is necessary to have one.

As long as CS5 works with Lion I'll be happy. Updating Adobe and Maya get expensive for someone like me who is a hobbyist game developer. That is roughly $3400k anytime I have to update my workflow. Thank goodness ZBrush updates are free :D

Well, which is it?
There aren't enough Macs and Mac users out there to count as anything, or they're all smug and worthy of a slap in the face?
People can't have it both ways.

Well, I think you said "maybe," but it's all good now. I will put the Plextor DVD-RW Drive in the bottom bay. Question though, I have Toast 7 for Power PC, but will it work alright under rosetta, or do I have to buy a Universal Binary? No I most certainly did not say "maybe". I said "definitely". The Toast 7.1 update is UB. It's FREE.

What is wrong with suggesting that there might be something inherently wrong with black culture. It would be racist to suggest there is something inherently wrong with black GENES, but culture is something which can and sometimes should change.
Parts of black culture which have proven to have negative effects in the United States is the glorification of begetting women with children regardless of marital status.
Dialects within African American communities in the United States have also had a negative effect on the black community. Its very hard for someone to find a job if they choose not to speak passable English.
These are issues/trends that leaders in the African American community need to think seriously about attempting to curb because they are and will continue to cause major problems.
None of these "parts of black culture" are unique to blacks, nor are they fundamentally identified with blacks only. Furthermore, I have never suggested that black people have no responsibility to be productive, law-abiding citizens. However, the suggestion that blacks can somehow gain equality with whites just by "getting their act together" is totally fallacious.

But you sure would be bothered if some one got yours and you didn't get one! Probably could hear you scream in Hong Kong without an amplifier.
Yes probably....but.......
I would just take the battery to the local applecare store and have my battery verified and get them to sort me out a replacement.......

To all those cutting military by huge percentages, what are your plans to deal with the millions of unemployed that would produce?
To those opposed to doing drastic cuts.....what do you plan to do to deal with the hundreds of millions affected if the country goes bankrupt?
As for our military.....we are so massively superior to any other nation, it's not like we are going to be at risk even if we do massive cutbacks in military spending.

Hackintosh housed insed a powermac G5 enclosure + Apple LED 27" + 15" late 2009 macbook pro.
Mind giving us a look inside the PMG5 case? ;)
I've wanted to do a mod like that for awhile, but those cases will easily run $100 for something with scuffs, or $175 for a case without, and I just can't justify spending so much on a case.

Nice upgrade, the color options on the small and big ones are kind of lame, but I hope they will work with a firewire to dock cable for those of us without USB 2.

I'm curious. Anybody know where all that money goes? How much does Apple (the computer company) get vs. music companies vs. the two remaining Beatles? I heard that Michael Jackson owned the rights to a lot of Beatles songs - and now he's gone too. Any place this can be looked at?
Rich
Thats a good point! I know Jacko had out bid McCartney on the rights to the Beatles songs but i too wonder who owns them now?
Plus (i could be wrong) Simon "Money Whore" Cowell has his fingers in Sony who co-own the rights to The Beatles catalogue!?
Don't quote me on that.
Sony & the Jackson estate own the publishing rights for a lot of the Beatles songs.
The Beatles and EMI own the recordings.
Sony & Jackson (& Cowell ?) don't make anything from the Beatles sales on iTunes. They do get paid for the performances on the X-Factor (this is shared with the song writers).
The Beatles and EMI are the big winners and Apple haven't done too bad. :)
