The MacBook doesn't need a Core 2 Duo processor. Apple needs to leave a gap between the MacBook and the MacBook Pro.
There's still quite a big difference between the MB and the MBP even if they both have C2D processors.
CPU speed isn't the only thing to care about you know.

Pointing to a law and saying "this" is why something is allowed is not the same as endorsing either the law or the action that it permits.
Agreed, very true. Glad to see someone else sees the difference between arguing the morality and the legality of a given issue.
Woodrow Wilson, Franklin Roosevelt, Harry Truman, John Kennedy, Lyndon Johnson, and Bill Clinton are proof that Democrats have long been willing and able to use the military. The unfortunate truth is that both parties have been "parties of war" to this very day.
Yes, the history of both parties during the past 100 years in regards to military intervention needs no introduction. You're quite right that they are both 'parties of war.' War should be avoided wherever possible, and when the congress declares war under a viable threat to the country or our interests, the war should be hard fought, swift, and over.

Hopefully it will come out within a fortnight otherwise it will be a long wait to MWSF :( I envisage just increased HD and possibly 1GB ram standard if it comes out within the fortnight. But if the C2D Macbook comes out MWSF there better be some decent upgrades! Maybe dedicated graphics card or at least the X3000.

I've always loved the look of those iSight cameras, do they work well? (If that's whats on top of your monitor, I think it is anyway)

Yes, I know that they are two different categories, but the MBPs would definitely steal a lot of the iPad's thunder.I doubt a new MBP announcement will hurt the iPad in any way. I think only an inconsequential percentage of Apple's iPad customer base would change plans for an iPad and choose a MBP instead.

Maybe it had nothing to do with money at all. Maybe "wife said no" because hubby is obsessed with gadgets and the Internet, and therefore pays no attention to wife, kids, dog or fish.
That said, Apple may not have necessarily helped with family by sending it back to hubby for free. All they did was undermine the wife's better judgment.

Well that's interesting........and wouldn't that be an interesting reason for a smaller screen (to better accommodate "glasses free" 3D.
For a glasses free screen, you wouldn't need a smaller screen. You'd just need a resolution with twice the width, because you'd have left/right images superimposed on each other.
And now that I've thought about it, a lenticular screen wouldn't work on the iPad because the 3D effect wouldn't work in both landscape and portrait modes.
So this 3D rumor is BS

I'm not fooling anyone. I live in California. I know what its like to be price gouged for everything cost of living wise. I am very lucky to be able to afford the lifestyle. I would have no problem paying a 10-15% premium for a product made here, that is supported here, and helps develop my community.
Your community? You are a factory worker and make $7/hr?
These comments are so unrealistic. NIMBY ought to be the new nickname for the USA.

FYI...anyone that is considering getting the in-store BT/AP module...
The tech on the phone told me that the G5 Powermac module will NOT work in the Mac Pro case...as the internals have been redesigned (power supply at the top, not bottom, new motherboard, etc.)
Also, seems the SATA interface is the newer "II" standard with twice the throughput, but it IS backwards compatible with SATA-I drives :D

How does the NVIDIA GeForce 7300 GT 128MB compare to the ATI X1600? Is it faster, better, and or more reliable? I am assuming this is also underclocked?

Ok, my earlier exclamation may have been premature. I'm also having problems - the battery for my 12" PB is in the range on both the press release and the apple support site, but when I put all the numbers in, it says "no mate" - seems a lot of people are getting this?

Ouch.
400 smackers for Ultimate?
My wallet hurts.
With few added bucks and student's discount, you can buy a Mini with Leopard and iLife preinstalled in that amount, or iPod Video, or Xbox 360, or ..............I love my Mac ;)

In Brazil any import has about 80% in taxes. That is the way to industrialize the country and make people and companies build the products "in house".
Building the iPad there would be a very good move since for the huge population and cheap professional labor.

But...but...but...this is only "iMovie Pro"! Apple's dumbing it down! No "professional" would spit on this if it was on fire! A buncha internet blowhards said so, so it must be true!

I know- it just seemed that some people in this thread thought a person was a musical infant if he liked The Beatles :)
I totally admit I am a musical infant. Though I play a few instruments, I don't read music and I certainly can't score anything, even in C and A minor. If being a musician or true music critic requires one read and write music properly, then I am not a musician by that definition, but I still love the Beatles.
I did take music appreciation in college and learned to love Bach and Beethoven, but I dropped out of that class. What was covered in 20th century classical, Broadway, Rock and Roll, and Jazz took up just one class meeting. But we spent two class meetings just on Brahms, and more on Bach and Beethoven. We met three times a week for 16 weeks and maybe we talked about the Beatles for ten minutes if even that. I have to say it kind of irked me that the entire last century of music (regardless of style) was covered in one hour.
That being said, I know real musicians who have music degrees who love the Beatles and comfortably have their CDs on the shelf right next to the classical composers and great operas.

imagine let's say that wal mat due to this apple deal with all studios will make a statemnet saying we lost 10% or our revenues so we will lay off 10% of our employess to cover for the losses.!!
now what do you do in this case?
it's not a free world after all....
Wal*Mart losing 10% of their revenue would still leave them a VERY profitable company... and firing that many employees would probably cause them to close some stores... which would result in further loss of profit.
If Wal*Mart lost 10% of their revenue by movie purchases alone, they would have to concentrate harder on other things.
Something else confuses me though...
Wal*Mart caters to the lower income families... who likely don't have high-speed internet and are, thus, EXTREMELY unlikely to purchace movies from the iTS, lest they want to be downloading for 3 days straight. Those people will go to the local Wal*Mart and buy the same movie from the $5.50 bargain bin. Sleazy customers are happy; Wal*Mart is happy. What do they have to be complaining about?
Man, I love that bin. I've found so many awesome movies in there.......... like Total Recall. Okay, so maybe not THAT awesome.

Have you actually measured it or are you just repeating marketers' tales?
No, "it just ought to be faster" is not the answer.
Until the flash storage is directly accessible by the CPU in the very way RAM is, without the need to read data into RAM, the difference is negligible (think early PocketPC). Besides, add the filesystem layer overhead.
You're thinking of a normal hard drive spinning constantly. HDs in low powered devices such as the Classic spin down most of the time to save on battery. A lot of people design their apps without much background threading in mind, and so if you switched to hard disk you'd find a lot of apps would suddenly start freezing when the hard disk was spun down.
I'm holding my hopes out for a 10th Anniversary Special iPod Classic (or touch) with 128/256GB flash storage... Imagine the price though* ;)
*I did spend nearly 400 on a 3rd Gen iPod 40GB though ;)

No way apple knew or went along with those "add-on" requirements to buy at Radio Shack. This is Radio Shack trying to take advantage of supply and demand in light of the fixed price by Apple. Demand is off the chart, supply was supposedly in single digits per store, so they knew that if you wouldn't buy AppleCare and a case in order to get the iPad, someone else would.
I am sure Apple is not happy, and as a consumer I wouldn't be, either. It is good short-term business sense (maximizing today's sales), but a terrible move long run as the reputation will take a big hit with customers and suppliers. A classic case of not looking past the end of your nose.
